Who are mid-career Professionals?

Generally, workers who are 5-15 years into their career, have experience and expertise in a field, and are still continuing to develop their skills and expand their experience in the aim of progressing to new roles.

The Future Skills Organisation’s 2023 Workforce Plan 1 reports that the median age of the FTB workforce is 41, which intersects with the timeline of a mid-career professional. This presents an opportunity to harness the knowledge and experience of this large worker group, to meet the projected gap in information technology workers.

What is the gap in current career change support?

High cost

Individual career coaching can cost $300-$400 for a single session or upwards of $3k for a full program, making cost a limiting factor.

Premature commitment

Existing bootcamps and certifications focus on specialised skills, requiring participants to commit to a program before they know whether it is the right specialisation of industry for them.

Lack of connection

There are estimates that over 50% of jobs are filled through networks and personal connections, and individual career coaching does not provide the industry connections and insights that are most likely to connect workers to opportunities.
